Basic Techniques of Sand Casting

The basic techniques of sand casting involve several key steps:

A pattern is made in the shape of the desired part. This pattern is typically made from wood, metal, or plastic.

The pattern is placed in a two-part moulding box (drag and cope) filled with specially prepared sand. The sand is compacted around the pattern to form the mould.

Once the sand has hardened, the pattern is carefully removed, leaving a cavity in the shape of the part.

Molten metal is poured into the cavity and allowed to cool.

After the metal has solidified, the sand mould is broken away, and the casting is removed.

The casting undergoes various finishing processes, such as cleaning, grinding, and inspection.
